Expansion For Taxi Services At Shannon Airport

Friday, May 23, 2008 Posted by Admin
Minister of State and Clare T.D., Mr. Tony Killeen has welcomed the news that the level of taxi services operating at Shannon Airport are to be expanded.

The Junior Agriculture Minister this week received confirmation from the Airport Director that additional permits will shortly be issued following open competition. The 1994 Airport Bye Laws govern the provision and regulation of small public service vehicles at Shannon Airport. This legislation enables the airport to provide its customers with a continuous cab service.

“I am delighted that new permits will be issued”, Minister Killeen commented. He continued, “I am informed that Shannon Airport Management made the decision following a recent review of taxi operations. This review included consultation with the Taxi Regulator and Irish Taxi Drivers Federation."

Minister Killeen expressed satisfaction that the application process would be open to all valid small public service vehicle driver licence holders. “Not only is this good news for taxi operators in the Shannon area, it will also bring huge benefits to the airport and to those that use it. It is imperative that adequate public transport is provided in response to the continued increases in passenger traffic at the airport”, Minister Killeen concluded.
