Clare FM reports today that the Environment Minister is likely to come in for a grilling over housing grants for the elderly and disabled when he visits the county on Friday.
It emerged last week that the money allocated for 2008 has already been spent and dozens of people who have applied for grants in the past month have been turned down by the cash strapped council. The grant allows for the adaptation of a home to cater for a disability and also covers essential repairs and maintenance to the homes of elderly people John Gormley is due in Killaloe on Friday to officially open the extension to Killaloe Fire Station.
The county's TD’s say they will raise the issue with the Minister in the Dail over the coming weeks while Ruan County Councillor Joe Arkins who originally highlighted the situation is demanding a deputation with Minister Gormley.
