The ESB is to begin installing Smart Meters at homes across Clare from today.The devices can monitor how much power is being used and when it is being used, Businessworld.ie reports. The meters will help householders to reduce the energy they use and their bills; improve the operation of the electricity system and reduce carbon emissions, according to Energy Minister Eamon Ryan.
Up to 21,000 electricity customers will get a Smart Meter installed in their home for free as they participate in the behavioural and technology trial to inform the national roll-out.
