West Clare artist April Jarocka’s first solo exhibition takes place at Kilrush Library from 27th May to 10th June 2010.
The exhibition, entitled “Serenity in Stone", will comprise realistic stone paintings by the Kilrush-based artist and illustrator. The exhibition also represents the last occasion on which April’s unique stone paintings will be shown in County Clare.
The official launch will be performed by West Clare based author Christine Breen on Thursday 27th at 9pm. Doors open at 8pm.
Though born in Devon, April has been living in West Clare since 1998. Commenting on her adopted home, April says: “The pace of life here is pretty relaxed. It's a great place to live and provides lots of thinking-space for gathering new ideas.”
Speaking about her realistic stone paintings, she said: “When I was old enough to understand my own style of work, I realised that fine detail and colour, as well as the play of light and shadow, was very important to me. I was, and still am, in my element when I can put pencil to paper and create a mini-world of people, buildings, nature and situations in exactly the way that I imagine.”
