Public Art Commission Unveiled In Scarriff

The Mayor of Clare has officially launched a public art commission at Scarriff Public Library.

Silver Birches, by John McNulty, was commissioned by Clare County Council and the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and comprises mosaics in the reception area of the library.

Speaking at the launch this week, Mayor Tony Mulcahy said: “The works that are on display here are very impressive and greatly complement this fine public facility. The objective of this public art commission was to provide a bright calm space behind the library reflecting the natural habitat around Scariff.”

“I am delighted to learn that the ceramic elements of birds and insects were made at workshops with the transition year students at Scariff Community College.   The involvement of members of the local community is an important step as it allows the community to  have a sense of ownership of or direct involvement in this art project.  After all, like all public art commissions - this a piece of art for the people and by the people”, he added.
