
The University of Limerick unveiled new additions to the National Self-Portrait Collection of Ireland at the Bourn Vincent Gallery.
Speaking at the launch of the exhibit, Professor Don Barry, UL President said "we are honoured and delighted to be the permanent home for the National Self-Portrait Collection which forms an important part of the cultural heritage of this country."
The work of ten artists; Mike Byrne, Gary Coyle, Gerard Dillon, Gerard Mannix Flynn, Catherine E Green, Alice Maher, Maeve McCarthy, Rosie McGurran, Brian MacMahon and Neil Shawcross have been included in the exhibit bringing the Collection to over 440 Self-Portraits.
The National Self-Portrait Collection of Ireland was founded at the National institute for Higher Education in 1983 and remains on permanent exhibition at UL. Its purpose is to form a collection of illustrative of self-portraiture in Ireland and of self-portraiture by Irish artists.
