Tony Griffin's Book Tops Bestseller List

Arts and Entertainment - Books

Former Clare hurler Tony Griffin has hit the top of the non-fiction bestsellers list in Ireland with his new book, ‘Screaming At The Sky’.

Based on the past four years of the Ballyea man’s life, the book outlines Griffin’s cycle across the second largest landmass on earth, Canada, and efforts to raise €1 million for cancer charities in memory of his late father who died from cancer.

The punishing 7,000km ride would prove to be more testing than he could ever have imagined becoming friends with famous cyclist Lance Armstrong. On his return to Ireland Griffin was plagued by serious injury and self-doubt. It was then that he knew he would have to dig deep if he was ever to fulfil his dreams and his potential.

He founded the Tony Griffin Foundation in 2007 and in 2008 the Sports Academy International with Clare footballer Tomas Madigan, a company which offers training camps and sports specific teambuilding to professional and amateur sports teams.

Beautifully written and intensely moving, Screaming at the Sky is a story of courage, of love and loss, and of battles won and lost both on and off the field. It is also the story of how one man faced his demons and finally found peace with himself and the world.

Tony Griffin is best known in Ireland as a Clare hurler, representing the county at the highest level from 2000-2009 and winning an All Star award in 2006.   He now lives in Killaloe.
