Maritime Wildlife Expert To Host Galway Conference

Arts and Entertainment - Events

World renowned diver and film-maker Monty Halls will present a public talk entitled “Capturing Giants: Filming whales, sharks and dolphins around the world” tomorrow, Thursday 7 October.

Monty has been in Ireland since April making Monty Halls Great Irish Escape, which is the third series of his popular programme Great Escape programmes.

During this latest series he has been working closely with Dr Simon Berrow and the Irish Whale and Dolphin group (IWDG), contributing to their research on whales, dolphins and basking sharks. This has involved learning how to carry out photo-identification of bottlenose dolphins, post-mortem examination of stranded whales and tagging and sampling of basking sharks.

Monty is also a popular motivational speaker and performance coach and his talk on his experiences filming and diving with whales, dolphins and sharks around the world will not only be informative but great entertainment.

All are welcome to this free, public event which is part of the Tales of the Whales Lecture Series organised by the IWDG and the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology under the PReCAST project funded by the Marine Institute Sea Change initiative and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

The talk will start at 8pm on Thursday 7th October in the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, on Dublin Road, Galway in Lecture Room 1000.
