The new all-weather Limerick Milk Market is holding an open day celebration today from 11am to 5pm.
The event, to which everyone in the city, county and surrounding area is invited, will celebrate the completion of the project.
The event is also intended to introduce the new market to those who haven’t experienced it and to showcase Fridays to those who are only familiar with the famous Saturday Market.
The Open Day will see the Friday Market in full-swing with shops and stalls offering artisan foods, arts, crafts and horticultural produce. Throughout the day there will be free classical and trad music sessions; food tastings and lunchtime Jazz with great value lunch snacks on offer. Bord Bia will stage two ‘healthy eating’ cookery demonstrations at 2pm and 3.30pm using Milk Market produce. For Kids, ‘Giggles the Clown’ will create mayhem from lunchtime onwards. There will also be lots of prizes to be won, including a luxury hamper.
According to David O’Mahony, Chairman of the Limerick Market Trustees, “The Milk Market has been a tremendous success since it re-opened as an all-weather, multi-day market last June. Less than 4 months on, it has already attracted over 150,000 shoppers into the City, bringing huge benefits to the shoppers, the traders and the economy of the city. Everyone knows the Saturday Market, but there is a Friday City Market and a Sunday Variety Market too, and many of the shops and the food pavilion are open on other days. Our ‘Open Day’ will showcase the Friday market in full-flight and the potential that the Limerick Market Trustees want to build upon. We are extending the invitation to everyone to drop in at some stage during the day, so that we can say ‘thank you’ and introduce them to our Friday Market."
