Popular broadcaster Síle Seoige was joined by a group of musicians to launch ‘Trad for Trócaire’, a new fundraising event organised by Trócaire and traditional Irish music association, Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.
Sile joined Trócaire and Comhaltas to call on musicians and venues in Clare to join the biggest traditional music session Ireland has ever seen, this September. Musicians around the country can 'Trad for Trócaire’ by holding sessions in their local pubs, venues and homes during the week of 23rd – 29thSeptember, to raise funds for the development agency’s work.
Speaking at the launch Síle Seoige said “Coming from Spiddal I’ve been surrounded by traditional music all my life and know there’s nothing like the atmosphere of a local session. In September 'Trad for Trócaire' will be a great way to have fun and make a difference. ‘Trad for Trócaire’ is an opportunity for all passionate and talented musicians across Ireland to come together to fight global poverty and support some of the poorest families around the world."
Labhrás Ó’Murchú, Director General of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann said: “Comhaltas has a long history of supporting worthy causes, and we’re particularly proud to encourage our members countrywide, and indeed all traditional musicians and performers, to take part in what we’re certain will be a hugely enjoyable week that will also go a long way to making a difference to those in need internationally. 'Trad for Trócaire' will have the full support of Comhaltas, and we hope to have most of our members actively take part to raise funds to help Trócaire continue their vital work.”
Justin Kilcullen, Director of Trócaire said: “We’re asking all traditional musicians, whether you play, run a pub or simply love music, to make your session a ‘Trad for Trócaire’ session this September, and to raise the roof for Trócaire.”
