Druid Theatre To Hold Auditions In Ennis

This summer marks a busy period for Druid with two productions on tour in Ireland and the UK. Penelope by Enda Walsh opens at Galway Arts Festival this summer and will tour to Cork and Dublin.

Meanwhile, The Silver Tassie by Seán O’Casey opens in Galway in August and will then tour to Ennis, Dublin, Cork, Portlaoise and Tralee before it transfers to the UK.

Druid is inviting 5 young people (male and female) to join 14 professional actors on stage for its production of The Silver Tassie at glór in Ennis and also for two of the performances during the Galway run at the Town Hall Theatre. The Silver Tassie is one of Seán O’Casey’s great plays and for this production Druid is putting together one of their biggest ever company of actors.

Open auditions will be held in glór on Saturday July 17th at 1pm. Those wishing to attend are invited to simply turn up at the specified time and do not need to pre-register or prepare anything in advance. Registration will take place on the day and those attending will be given the lyrics of a song to sing and will be accompanied on keyboard by Elliot Davis (Composer and Musical Director on the show). Before attending for audition, Druid asks that each participant read through the following information to ensure that they are eligible to attend for audition.

Participants must…
•    be aged 16 or 17 during the months of August and September (please bring proof of age on the day)
•    have an ability to sing and be able to follow direction
•    be from Clare or the surrounding counties
•    be available on all rehearsal and performance dates

Rehearsals take place at glór in Ennis on Friday August 27th to Wednesday September 1st (daytime on Saturday and evening time on all other days). There are no rehearsals on Sunday. The performance dates are Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd September at the Town Hall Theatre in Galway and from Thursday 9th to Saturday 11th September at glór in Ennis. The show runs nightly at 8pm in both venues.
