Business & Finance - Construction & Property
Fáilte Ireland have approved a grant of €756,128 towards the underpinning and extension of the existing Killaloe canal wall, to enable formalised safe moorings and provide safe pedestrian access to the moorings.
Some 250m of new floating moorings will be constructed in the River Shannon adjacent to the existing canal wall. Service bollards providing water, lighting and electricity, will be installed on both the extended canal wall and new moorings. A boat pump-out facility will also be installed on the new moorings.
In order to prevent further deterioration of the canal walls and banks, due to flow velocity, a new set of flow control gates and pedestrian footbridge will be constructed in the canal. This will incorporate all necessary hydraulic, electrical and operational design and installation.
The existing canal walkway will be resurfaced with the drainage system upgraded. The provision of the pedestrian footbridge over the flow control gates, combined with the upgrade of the existing facilities, will provide a linked walkway along the banks of the canal and provide formalised mooring space for some 65-70 boats.
