Northern Distributor Road Submission Deadline Is Extended

Business & Finance - Construction & Property

Clare County Council announced today that it is extending the deadline for receipt of submissions in relation to the emerging Preferred Route Corridor for Phase 2 of the Limerick Northern Distributor Road.

The local authority said it was extending the deadline from February 16th to March 12th to enable members of the public and interested stakeholders to express their views.

Once completed, the Northern Distributor Road project will link Coonagh with Parteen/Ardnacrusha Area before crossing the River Shannon to the North of the University of Limerick and onwards to the Old Limerick/Dublin Road. The project is being led by Clare County Council, in conjunction with Limerick City Council and Limerick County Council.

According to Tom Tiernan, Project Manager and Senior Engineer with Clare County Council: “The Council was delighted with the response received at the recent public consultation event at the Radisson Hotel. Over 450 people attended the event which underlined the huge public interest in the proposed project.”

Mr. Tiernan said: “Information on the emerging Preferred Route Corridor for Phase 2 will remain on display in the Westbury Area Office, Aras Contae an Chláir, Limerick City Hall, Limerick County Hall and Limerick County Council’s Area Office in Annacotty.”

Views expressed during the consultation exercise will be considered in the context of the emerging Preferred Route Corridor for the scheme. Design of the Limerick Northern Distributor Road (Phase 2) will progress based on the corridor to be accepted following the public consultation process, leading to the publication of an Environmental Impact Statement and Compulsory Purchase Order in due course.

The final determination of the Planning Process will rest with An Bord Pleanála.
