The award-winning biographer of JM Keynes – Professor Robert Skidelsky – is to deliver a public lecture in Dublin as part of the Congress series of talks Building an Alternative Economic Vision.
The lecture will take place at 6.30pm on Tuesday October 12, in Liberty Hall (doors open at 6pm).
Professor Skidelsky has publicly opposed the resort to austerity measures and deficit reduction on the part of governments across the European Union, in response to the current crisis.
Last month, Professor Skidelsky told a conference in Belfast that it would be wrong for the British Government to commit “to a definite programme of deficit reduction until we have definite evidence of substantial economic recovery in the UK, USA, and Eurozone – which is lacking. What we can do is to switch the emphasis of deficit spending to infrastructure projects.”
Lord Skidelsky is the Emeritus Professor of Political Economy at the University of Warwick. His three volume biography of the economist John Maynard Keynes won numerous awards. In 2009, Skidelsky published Keynes: The Return of the Master, an account of the current economic crisis.
The October 12 talk is free to the public, but places are limited and pre-booking of tickets is necessary. Full details at www.ictu.ie
