Full-time Firefighters in County Clare are set to participate in a national all out strike over pay and conditions from 24 April.
Clare County Fire and Rescue Service is currently made up of 11 Senior Fire Officers, 1 Wholetime Station Officer in Ennis and 77 Retained Firefighters in seven stations throughout Clare.
John Kidd, National Secretary of the full-time Firefighters, stated today that the non-replacement of staff is having a huge impact on services.
Meanwhile, Mr. Michael Finneran, T.D., Minister for Housing and Local Services, today announced a capital funding package amounting to $18 million in 2010 to support fire and rescue services across the State. Among the projects approved include the development of a fire training centre in Ennis.
Welcoming the news, Chief Fire Officer Adrian Kelly said: “The Fire Training Centre will further enhance the high level of service provided by Clare County Fire and Rescue Service. It is proposed that the facility will include lecture rooms and changing areas which will facilitate the training needs of emergency services personnel.”
