CAO Website Online Again Following Hacking Incident

Business & Finance - Technology

Thousands of Leaving Certificate students throughout Ireland who had hoped to check their offers of Third Level education placements online today were left frustrated after a cyber attack on the Central Applications Office (CAO) website.

The attack has been condemned by the Labour Party Spokesperson on Education Ruari Quinn who described it as  a “ particularly malicious incident, apparently designed to throw the system into chaos.”

“On the very day that tens of thousands of students should be checking out their first-round offers, this incident will add to the anxiety that they will already be experiencing, and as such is most unwelcome.  I welcome assurances by CAO officials that they are working on the problem and would add my voice to appeals to students, not to panic”, he added.

The website, www.cao.ie,  went live again shortly before 3pm.
