Business & Finance - Technology
This November, Dr. Craig Barrett, Chairman of the Irish Technology Leadership Group (ITLG), will lead a delegation of technology executives and investors from Silicon Valley for the 3rd Annual "Silicon Valley Comes to Ireland" 2010 event.
The ITLG will host this event in partnership with the University of Limerick, NUI Galway and Shannon Development.
This year the ITLG is introducing a new and exciting addition to the event, namely the University Challenge, to be held on the afternoon of November 16th at the University of Limerick.
Each university in Ireland was asked to nominate one company from the ICT or Green Energy sector that is aiming to commercialise a technology with worldwide potential. The ITLG will select two finalists from the applications it receives.
Each finalist in the University Challenge will have the opportunity to raise their profile by pitching their idea to a panel of senior and well respected international business people.
The winner of the Challenge will receive the opportunity to travel to California in 2011 to the "Irish Technology Leaders Silicon Valley Awards" where they will gain access to the ITLG network and receive follow up mentoring through the Irish Innovation Centre in San Jose, California.
In addition, the winner will receive a prize to the value of Euro 20,000 including engagement with the Irish Innovation Centre in San Jose, to be used as leverage to further advance their company.
UL President, Professor Don Barry said: "The University of Limerick is continuing to strengthen its links with industry leaders as it hosts the Irish Technology Leadership Group (ITLG) Silicon Valley Comes To Ireland event in conjunction with Alliance partner, NUI Galway and Shannon Development, in November this year. We were very happy that our bid to host this event was successful as it will bring prominent figures from the innovation, business and venture capital communities in Silicon Valley to the region for a review of potential investment opportunities, under the chairmanship of former Intel CEO and Chairman Dr Craig Barret”, said
