Happy campers can make life a little easier for themselves this summer if they pack a few handy gadgets into their backpacks, writes Senan Hogan.
Some creature comforts can make all the difference if you're sleeping under the stars at a music festival such as Electric Picnic or in the wilds during a hiking or fishing trip.
The wind-up LED lantern (PICTURED left), which has a 3.6 volt rechargeable battery, will charge up your mobile phones and iPod to help you keep in contact with mates and to provide your favourite campsite music.
The lantern can be fully charged in the car or at home beforehand and users can then simply wind up the hand crank to top up the battery - for example one minute of winding can power up to eight minutes of light at a time. It also collapsible for easy packing and contains an 'emergency siren' for alerting friends where your party or barbeque is located. Last-minute campers can pick up the hi-tech kit, which has two light settings, for 36.83 euro from Argos stores nationwide.
Meanwhile, no need to feel scruffy and muddy at outdoor festivals or in the great outdoors any more with this mobile solar-heated shower unit (pictured top left). Wash away outdoor grime at the end of the day with the 20-litre water pouch which is heated by the sun's rays.
The unit comes with an on-off shower head and a suspension bar for hanging from a tree. If it lies in the heat of a 21 degree Celsius day for 2.5 hours it will warm the water to a temperature of 38 degrees. Campers can snap the product, made by Gelert, for 21.99 euro at Argos stores.
Argos now allows customers to ask local stores to hold fast-selling products for them through the 'Check & Reserve' facility on its website: www.argos.ie.
