
The Health Service Executive (HSE) is investigating the cause of a fire in a kitchen at a geriatric hospital in Co Clare on Saturday.
The fire was reported at around 7.30am on Saturday at St Joseph's Hospital on Lifford Road in Ennis. The blaze broke out in an extraction canopy in the hospital's kitchens.
Three units of the fire brigade responded from Ennis station which is located just 500 metres from the hospital.
Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus quickly brought the fire under control. It is understood that the fire was caused by any electrical fault.
Fire crews vented smoke from the kitchen area before declaring the scene safe.
No patients were evacuated from the facility and no one was injured.
