Kilmaley v Clooney/Quin @ Shannon, Sunday 12.30 pm
This game sees a repeat of the 2010 league final when on that occasion Kilmaley recorded a good win.
Kilmaley are going for three in a row this year and got their campaign off to a solid start in round 1 when they defeated Scariff-Ogonnelloe by five points. Last time out the Clooney/Quin girls drew with last year’s Intermediate champions Kilkishen.
Kilmaley will be fancied to claim the victory here and if that’s the case then they will be one step closer to doing the three-in-a-row. Kilmaley have a nice blend of youth and experience with players such as Emma O’Driscoll, Denise Lynch, Clare McMahon, Shonagh Enright, Eimear Considine and Lorna Higgins in their ranks. Clooney-Quin will be without the talented Orlaith Duggan through injury but will call on the likes of Deirdre Murphy, Claire Ryan, Kelly McLean, Imelda Colleran, Jessica O’Neill and Aisling Hannon.
Verdict: Kilmaley
Kilkishen v Scariff-Ogonnelloe @ Bodyke, Sunday 6 pm
This game could be a tight contest as whichever side loses will exit the championship race. Kilkishen drew with Clooney/Quin last time out and having just come up from Intermediate ranks they will hope to retain their hopes of making it to the knockout stages. Scariff-Ogonnelloe put in a merited display last time out against champions Kilmaley. They proved during the league with their defeat of Newmarket that they are not just here to make up the numbers.
It is a hard one to call but maybe this emerging Kilkishen side, which can call on the likes of Kate Lynch, Sarah Donnellan, Norah Murphy, Cushla Hehir, Lisa Loughnane and Amy Heffernan, will prevail. For the amalgamation Clare senior players Mairead Scanlan and Aine O’Brien (Scariff) and Susan Vaughan (Ogonnelloe) will be expected to lead the way and they will also look to the likes of Catherine O’Brien (Scariff) and Roisin and Regina O’Brien (Ogonnelloe).
Verdict: Kilkishen
Sixmilebridge v Bodyke/Tulla @ Shannon, Sunday 2 pm
Sixmilebridge will be expected to win this one well after both sides round 1 games. The Bridge easily defeated Wolfe Tones while the amalgamation were also easily defeated by Newmarket. It all points to a Sixmilebridge victory and they will hope to qualify for the semi final’s once again with this young team. However, they do have injury worries over Aine McNamara and Sinead Tuohy.
Bodyke/Tulla amalgamated for this years championship due to a lack of numbers in both clubs, they will hope for a better showing in this game. Key operators for Sixmilebridge are Chloe Morey, Sinead Crowe, Aiveen O’Shea, Niamh Corry, Naomi Carroll and Rachel O’Halloran. For the east Clare amalgamation Ann-Marie Fitzgerald and Amy Collins (Bodyke) along with Aine Dinan and the Power’s (Tulla) are key players.
Verdict: Sixmilebridge
Newmarket-on-Fergus v Wolfe Tones @ Shannon, Sunday 6 pm
The Blues hammered Bodyke/Tulla in round 1 with a new look team. It is expected that they will overcome Wolfe Tones here and set up a potential top of the table clash with Sixmilebridge in round 3. Wolfe Tones are in a rebuilding stage and will probably see their best chance of success in the Senior B grade.
The Tones were hammered by Sixmilebridge in round 1 and will want a better showing here. Newmarket will look to the likes of Kaiser sisters, Claire Arthur, Carol O’Leary, Aimee McInerney and Sharon McMahon. The Shannon girls will need Aine Ni Cormaic, Sarah Donovan, Evelyn McGirl, Lizzy Dannaher, Avril O’Dea and Leanne Boyle on form.
Verdict: Newmarket-on-Fergus
