Clare Round 3 Senior Camogie Championship Preview

Sports - Gaelic Games

Kilmaley v Kilkishen
Kilmaley are safely through to the semi-final stage and will qualify as group winners if they can get a result here.

On their way to the last four they have been made fight all the way particularly during last week’s game with Clooney-Quin where it took three second half goals to see them through. Kilkishen have done well in their return to senior ranks claiming a draw against Clooney-Quin the first day out before losing to Scariff-Ogonnelloe last weekend.

Kilmaley will call on Emma O’Driscoll, Denise Lynch, Clare McMahon, Aisling Darcy and Shonagh Enright to lead the way. Kilkishen can call on the likes of Nora Murphy, Sarah Donnellan, Marie Collins, Clare Baker and they will hope to have Kate Lynch back from injury as she crucial to their cause. Kilmaley are fancied to win this one and should have an undefeated record come the final whistle.

Verdict: Kilmaley

Scariff-Ogonnelloe v Clooney-Quin
Scariff-Ogonnelloe needs just a result here to get to the last four for the first time ever. Clooney-Quin will be disappointed not to have got something out of last weekend’s game with champions Kilmaley but are still in with a chance of qualifying for the semi’s thanks to the point they picked up against Kilkishen in round 1.

Scariff-Ogonnelloe are backboned by the likes of Mairead Scanlan, Aine O’Brien, Susan Vaughan, Roisin and Regina O’Brien. Clooney-Quin will be expected to just about edge through here with the likes of Deirdre Murphy, Kelly McLean, Christine Colleran, Aisling Hannon and Clare Ryan all being key members of their side.

Verdict: Clooney-Quin

Sixmilebridge v Newmarket-on-Fergus
Both these sides are safely through to the last four and at stake here is the title of group winners. It is expected whoever win’s this one will avoid defending champions Kilmaley in the semi-final. These two teams recorded two big victories over Wolfe Tones and Bodyke-Tulla. This game promises to be a cracker between two even sides.

It is a hard one to call but with two youthful sides the experience that Sixmilebridge gained from last year’s final defeat might see them pick up the victory here. The Bridge will look to the likes of Sinead Crowe, Chloe Morey, Aiveen O’Shea, Naomi Carroll and Niamh Corry to lead the way. Newmarket have key players in Sharon McMahon, Claire Arthur, Aimee McInerney, Joanne Walsh and Ruth Kaiser.

Verdict: Sixmilebridge

Wolfe Tones v Bodyke-Tulla
This match is a tough one to call with both sides eager to get into the Senior B semi-final. Both sides have found the going tough at senior level this year and will be hoping to preserve their Senior.status. Wolfe Tones are in a rebuilding phase while Bodyke-Tulla joined forces as neither side would have been able field on their own. It should be a close encounter with Bodyke-Tulla getting a slight nod. Bodyke-Tulla will have Ann-Marie Fitzgerald, Lorna Power, Aine Dinan, Aoife Stack and Edel O’Grady in their side. Meanwhile, Wolfe Tones will look to the likes of Aine Ni Cormaic, Sinead Donovan, Lizzy Danagher, Evelyn McGirl and Leanne Boyle to fire them into the senior B semi’s.

Verdict: Bodyke/Tulla
