2010 was an extremely busy year for Parteen camogie.
Our numbers have flourished more than threefold with over eighty girls now registered from U6’s to U14’s with a recruitment drive currently in the planning!
Bernie Kelly and Chris Fitzgerald’s much appreciated perseverance in coaching the smaller numbers on their own over the past few years has now come to fruition as they have now been joined by a coaching squad of fourteen more willing volunteers with many other parents helping in the background.
The highlight of our year was partaking in the Feile na nGael competition in June. Huge preparation went into training the girls & organising the event locally and we thank those involved in extra training especially Alan Small and indeed all those who helped in any way in making it such a memorable weekend. We hosted a great team from Cillard and many lifelong friendships were forged. Our girls did us proud and their win against Birmingham was celebrated with much excitement!
In early 2010 we competed in both the U12C and U14C championships. The girls improved with every game and their enthusiasm never waned despite meeting with some very experienced teams.
Our U8’s & U10’s took part in all Go Games organised throughout the year and parents & children alike got huge enjoyment from the games. We also competed in the U11 league during the summer which again was of huge benefit to us as the girls started to really play together as a team. Our U6’s are an enthusiastic bunch whose skills are improving weekly.
The potential and progress of all the girls is clear to be seen and we can only look forward to the future of Parteen camogie with confidence!
