Sports - Golf

A kidney transplantee from County Clare has helped the Irish transplant team to successfully defend their Five-Nations Transplant golf title in Dundoland, Scotland at the weekend.

Marie O’Connor, who has undergone two kidney transplants (first in 1996, second in October 1998) was part of a team that defeated England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

All teams taking part in the event comprised of golfers who revived their sporting careers after major organ transplantations.  All ten members of the Irish team have received a new heart, lung, kidney or liver.

Ireland: Marie O’Connor (Clare), Hugo Boyce (Donegal), Mick Dwyer (Dublin), Deirdre Faul (Dublin), Garry Campbell (Wicklow), John Casey (Dublin), Frank Doyle (Wexford), Tony Gavigan (Meath), Eoin Hurley (Waterford) and Philip Kavanagh (Wicklow)

This August, Ireland will host the European Transplant and Dialysis Games for the first time.
