O'Callaghan Eyes Up Royal Ascot Challenge For Kinsale King

Sports - Horse Racing

California-based trainer Carl O’Callaghan, from Newmarket on Fergus, is planning to follow up his USD2 million Golden Shaheen win in Dubai by entering Kinsale King in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 19.

The horse and trainer have already returned to the US but O’Callaghan has expressed his intention to prepare Kinsale King for the Golden Jubilee, which is run over a straight six furlongs on turf.  He has suggested that he also may bring the gelding to Maryland to train at Fair Hill Training Centre in advance of the trip to England.

Kinsale King won the Golden Shaheen over about six furlongs last weekend, handing O’Callaghan the honour of being the only American-based trained winner on the Dubai World Cup program.

O’Callaghan has trained in California since the early 1990s.  He is also well known in the Irish community along the US West coast as a singer and entertainer.
