Inch Go The Distance As Bridge Are Rocked At Home

Sports - Soccer

The Munster Junior Cup First Round took centre stage on the local soccer fixture list today with no less than ten games down for decision.

The biggest surprise of the day saw Division 2’s Inch Crusaders overcome Premier league side Hermitage A on penalties after the game finished all square after extra time.

Premier Division leaders Rock Rovers easily accounted for fellow Premier league side Bridge United A. The Ennis side came out 10-2 winners away from home.

In the Battle of O’Briensbridge, Bridge United B beat their A counterparts 3-2 in a keenly contested game in South East Clare.

In the Husquarna Maloney Garden Machinery Premier Division League, Lifford got their first points of the 2010-11 campaign today when they overcame Tulla United 4-1.  The away win lifts the Ennis side off the bottom off the table into 8th spot.  Rock Rovers remain in top spot on nine points from their first four games with Rineanna Rovers propping up the table on just one point from a possible twelve.

In the Prego Menswear First Division League Connolly Celtic failed in their bid to leapfrog Cratloe Forest to secure top spot in the table.  The side played out a 0-0 draw in Cratloe today.  Cratloe remain top on four points from two games, one point ahead of Corofin Harps who defeated Burren United 5-4.

In the Sel Print Second Division League, Kildysart Celtic came out top in a five-goal thriller against Moher Celtic.  Kildysart's 3-2 home win lifts them to the top of the Division.

Cooraclare’s unbeaten run in the Suttons Lighting Third Division League continued when the West Clare outfit hammered Hermitage C 8-2.  Cooraclare remain top of the table with 13 points from a possible 15 after their opening five games of the season.  Hermitage C are the league’s basement side, rooted to the bottom of the Third Division after conceding 24 goals and scoring only four in their opening four games.

Elsewhere, Avenue United notched up an impressive 2-1 win over Limerick-based Regional United in the first round of the FAI Youths Cup.  Sadly it’s the end of the road for Bridge United who went down 6-0 away to Ballynanty Rovers, also of Limerick.
